War mask - SALAMPASU tribe, D.R. Congo

War mask from the SALAMPASU tribe from D.R. Congo.

The main task of the "Warrior society" was to protect the little region, where the tribe lives, against other kingdoms.

The Salampasu war masks are intended to be imposing and fearsome and their goal is to result as much threatening as possible. The protruding forehead, the intimidating eyes, triangular nose and its "roaring" gesture, have this aim.

This mask has a nice white kaolin, feathers on the head and a painted cap of natural fibers on the back.
Good condition, possible traces of use. Take a good look at the pictures.
