Large almost 50" Initiation mask with fertility figure from the YAKA tribe from D.R. Congo.

This type of mask were used in initiation ceremonies of the Mukanda or Nkanda societies. At the conclusion of the initiation, the masks were held in front of the faces of the dancers.

This mask is decorated with polychrome kaolin, but because of the age colors blue and red are a bit fainted.

Good condition, possible traces of use. Crack on the back bottem.
