A fine Large 23.6 " MAHONGWE Reliquary figure made in wood and covered with brass copper plates. This figures represents the connection between the world of the living and the dead in African art. Human remains of ancestors of high descent were kept in baskets that were guarded by this type of figures.

In this case the head is made out of weaved brass copper strings. Eyes are made out of bone. It has very nice, detailed work.On the back of the head it has a masked face.

Good condition, but this statue can show some usual wear and tear. Have a good look at the pictures.
